CLIMBING THE MOUNT CAMEROON:

Mt. Cameroon, also known as Fako or Mongo ma Lobo is an active volcano that last erupted in 2000. It is located in Cameroon National Park in southwest Cameroon, near the town of Buea. Climbing Mount Cameroon is no stroll in the countryside. It requires a good level of physical fitness, enough to walk for 6-8 hours per day for 3 or more days over rough ground, though a porter will be responsible for carrying your bag.

There are numerous trails to the summit of Mt. Cameroon. The most popular is the Guinness Trail, which is used for the annual race to the summit.

Hikers have always loved the challenge of climbing Mount Fako to explore the active volcano’s rich biodiversity and follow the path of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope. Huts mounted at strategic points along the trail provide shelter for those who enjoy sleeping in the wild, and tour guides will help you do your best to conquer the tallest peak in West Africa.
